  • French Classism
  • I am from the 2nd estate. We are wealthy and do not need to pay taxes.
  • I am of the 3rd estate. I represent 98% of the population. We are poor and pay taxes.
  • I am from the 1st estate. We are the wealthiest class and do not pay taxes.
  • Louis XVI
  • When I could not handle the stress of being king, I spent all of the government money on personal items and trips. I sent France into bankruptcy.
  • The Meeting
  • No! We can't afford to pay more taxes!
  • We do!
  • Who wants to raise taxes?
  • We support more taxes!
  • They are explaining the classes because the unfair treatment of the 3rd estate was what started the French revolution. They had no money, yet they were the people who were fored to pay taxes.
  • The National Assembly
  • I have an idea! Let's start our own government. We don't need to pay their taxes and fix the king's mistakes! We need to rebel!
  • I included Louis XVI because he was one of the major reasons that the revolution started. He and his wife put France in debt, which left the 3rd estate even more poor.
  • The NA vs. Louis XVI
  • No! We don't want Louis XVI back! We have already created the Declaration of the Rights of Man, giving us freedom to life, liberty, and fraternity.
  • I included this because the vote to raise taxes was what led the 3rd estate to revolt. The other classes voted yes to raising taxes because they did not have to pay, but the 3rd estate barely had enough money to pay the normal taxes.
  • Robespierre
  • I will fix what Louis XVI did! I will help France! I will be a fair and just leader!
  • This is important because the 3rd estate started the National Assembly and it contained 3 legislative parts. They led the rebellion. They took over a prison and raided the houses of the two upper classes.
  • There will be radicals, those who want extensive changes. There will be moderates, who only want moderate change.
  • There will also be conservatives, who want a limited monarchy.
  • The National Assembly got rid of Louis XVI fro a while, but then Austria and Prussia wanted to reinstate him to ensure a trading partner. This is when the war began. In the end, the National Assembly got what they wanted and Louis XVI was guillotined.
  • We are Austria and Prussia. We want Louis XVI back so we can have a trading partner! We will fight for his return to France!
  • Robspierre came after Louis XVI. He started the "Republic of Virtue" but became a cruel tyrant. He created the "Reign of Terror" that killed 30,000 people. in 1794, he was taken out of power and beheaded for all of his violent crimes.
  • No! You have caused just as much trouble for France as Louis XVI did! You started the "Reign of Terror", which left 30,000 people dead. You are a tyrant and we are going to behead you!
