  • Causes of the Persian War
  • Battle of Marathon
  • Battle of Thermopyle
  • The Ionian Greeks asked for help from the Greeks on the mainland. The king of Persia, King Darius I, was angry that the Athenians had helped the Ionians rebel against the Persia.  He then declared war on Athens and its allies in 492 B.C.E
  • Battle of Salamis
  • This battle started in 490 B.C.E. The Athens won because of their Phalanx formation strategy. The runner, Pheidippidds, warned Athens of the Persians coming. The Athens won in this battle.
  • Battle of Plataea
  • The battle of Thermopylar started in 480 B.C.E. Xerxes leads his army into them.  The leonidas, which are spartan, tried to hold them off but all of the 300 soldiers died. Persia won.
  • Effects of the War
  • The battle of the Salamis started in 480 B.C.E. The Athenians tricked Persia into fighting in a narrow water-way. This was smart of the Athenians because they knew the Persia ships were big so they would get stuck. The Athens won in this battle.
  • This battle started in 479 B.C.E. The Greeks defeated the Persians that were left to fight. This battle was the last battle of the Persian Wars. This was the end of the war. The Athens and its Allies won the battle.
  • The Athens created the Delian League. The Delian League is an alliance with other city states to protect themselves if Persia invaded ever again. The Athens rebuilt their city- state.
