May 1607, three boats of english settlers anchored near Chesapeake Bay
There were many settlers all with different jobs and their captin John Smith
They found natives where they were building homes but they were starving
The chief wanted john and his people the leave his land but then he pulled his compass out of his pocket and the chief was interested
As John told the chief what the compass was he mad a deal they could stay in Native land in exchange for the compass and john had to teach them how to use the compass
So thats what John did he taught the chief how to navigate using the compass and in return he and his people could live in natives land
