Storyboard Text

  • An ideal habitat for fish.
  • Fertilizer, sewage, and pollutants from the atmosphere are washed into the lake causing eutrophication.
  • The high amount of nutrients such as: nitrogen and phosphorus in the water cause excess algae growth
  • The algae blocks out the light from the sun and kills the plants that live below the surface of the lake.
  • The bacteria that decompose the dead plants reduced the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water making it inhabitable only by phytoplankton.
  • The decrease in oxygen kills everything in the water including the invertebrates and creates a dead zone.
