  • Cell Cycle and Mitosis in Animal Cells
  • The DNA is condensed and reorganized so that the classic chromosome structure appears.
  • Hi! I'm Michelle the Cell, and I will be showing you what is happening throughout the cell cycle!
  • Chromosome
  • Prophase
  • Right now, I am in the beginning stages of mitosis, called Prophase!
  • Centrosomes
  • Cell Membrane
  • In metaphase microtubules from the centrosomes attach to the centromere of each chromosome. The chromosomes then align in the centre of the cell.

  • Meta is Latin for "mid".

  • The chromosomes then separate into sister chromatids.
  • Ana is Latin for "back".
  • Anaphase
  • Nuclear membrane reappears around the cell. The spindle fibres start to disappear.
  • Fun fact! Telos means "end" in Latin.
  • Cell membrane pinching in.
  • Telophase
  • Spindle fibres beginning to disappear.
  • Two new cells are formed, called daughter cells.
  • Cytokinesis

  • Now there are two of us!
