  • Dharavi is a locality in Mumbai. It houses one of the largest slums in the world, over a million citizens.
  • India houses one of the largest slums in the world: Dharavi.
  • - It is important to understand that “urban” slums are not “poor” in its literal sense. At times they have everything they need to.
  • A few useful facts:
  • There are local government run school near large slums that children can attend. The drop out rate is high but many think there is no education at all.
  • Children are often clothed and fed. Although, diseases and mortality rates are higher than the norm children usually live a happy life.
  • Despite the poor family values and the poverty existing in slums such as Kallukuttai there are children who aspire to be successful and with the support of their parents they will achieve big things.
