Today we start the Hajj in Timbuktu. Mansa Musa has brought me along to show his story. I know it will be a long journey but I am so grateful he chose me as one of the hundreds of people to help him.
While the gold was getting stored I made a song describing the beginning of the journey.
Thousands of slaves and camels are joining Mansa Musa too on his Prilgrimage. They carry pounds and pounds of salt and gold we just picked up from the mines.
I have lost track of what day it is almost been a year. Mansa Musa still rides his horse in the front with pride. I just finished talking to another griot and we shared our infromation. We both worked on a poem together.
I'm staying in a tent with 4 other people. We all are sharing the stories and writings we wrote. Mansa Musa is in a huge tent about 10 away from mine.
We made it to Cairo only hours ago. Mansa Musa has been at the trade market since. He has traded with several merchants already. He's been talking to everyone here. Giving them gratitude, gold, and salt.
We just left Mecca, our final destination. If my calculations are right it has been a little more than a year. Along the way Mansa Musa has built hundreds of Universities and Mosques. We still have a long way back until we are fully done. I have met many other storytellers like me, but also told/wrote many stories.
