Storyboard Text

  • The seven rooms represent different stages of life. We know this because the sun rises from east to west and the story explicitly says that the seventh room is in the west corridor. I think this because the seventh room is an allegory for death and that is the very last stage in life.
  • the dog is blue.
  • The seventh room is an allegory for death. The room is laden with black but the windows are "a blood red"(pg. 370). This represents the death that is going on around them.
  • animals that consume the carcasses of other animals that have been killed by predators or have died of other causes.
  • The scene where the narrator tells us that there is no light in the seventh apartment and that you can only catch glimpses of it because there was light outside in the corridor is an example of symbolism because the seventh room represents death and the light that allows you to see represents the glimpses of death that the prince was seeing when he saw that half of his kingdom was dead and he knew he would die the same way.
  • The clock stands as a reminder that nobody can escape death. That no matter what their time will come, even though Price Prospero tries to delay it, as the narrator explains.
  • The Red Death represents tuberculosis. We know this because Mr. Poe's wife died of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis took everything away from him just like the red death took away everything from the Prince. We know that the Red Death is taking something when the narrator compares him to " a thief in the night"(pg.374)
