personal response to the book
why hello Cindy, do you have another story for me today?
good morning Mrs Applebomb
but of course, it is called tomorrow when the war began
sounds good already
ok, the story is about some teenagers in australia who go camping together and find this amazing spot that now one probably knows about. they had the best time and really bonded. when they got back the town they once knew was a ghost town, their parents gone, neighbours gone, any sign of movement gone.
wow, isn't she a bit young to be reading this
then they have to go through heaps of speed bumps on their journey to survival. the main ideas in this story were action, a love story, drama and tears but what it truly was about, survival. the seven teenagers had survived in a world they no longer recognised, they had to survive without their familys by their side. it was also about working together because in order for them to survivethey had to put their lives in one anothers hands.
i feel like the author's viewpoint of the story is that we are capable of much more then we believe or what meets the eye. we are often underestimated with the skills and the knowledge we possess, we even doubt ourselves. Ellie and her friends were teenagers still trying to figure out their place in the world than the life they once knew came crashing down, yet they survived. when their life was changed they had to step up and be the adults, they needed to survive on their own, without the support of their families. find food, shelter, water and look after each other, when they were struggling to take care of themselves. they pushed on, they fought against the invaders and that is something we didn't think they could do.
how the heck is she 10
i think the author believes that teenagers are hugely underestimated because of the tittle people give them as irresponsible. at the start the characters were described as innocent, now they had blood on their hands. the invasion brought out a different person in each of them. homer stepped up and became the leader, instead of a troublemaker. fiona got more hands down dirty kind of stuff, Robyn got stronger and braver and helped lee to survive with his leg, she had to stay strong for him. Ellie started to be more open with herself and what she was feeling and began to understand herself more.
