  • Many people read newspapers as a form of debate over the growth of Arkansas. Newspapers were an excellent way to spread political concerns, or ideas, and spread them more efficiently.
  • The government declined the creation of Arkansas due to financial difficulties, loss of taxes, and the worry of Arkansas becoming a slave state.
  • Arkansas finally became the 25th state on June 15th, 1836
  • Due to financial difficulties, the government of Arkansas created their first banks; The Bank of Arkansas, and The Real Estate Bank of Arkansas.
  • After the creation of the Bank of Arkansas, citizens began to worry due to believing that the banks were use for corruption. This is the beginning of the Panic of 1837. Eventually, these and other factors caused both banks to close, leaving the state in a huge financial mess.
  • Even though Arkansas's territorial government had been organized for some time, the general assembly still did not have an official building where it could meet. But, in 1842, Arkansas's government finally created it's first state house.
