Hi my name is Holden Caulfield and I was a student at Pencey ... but I got kicked out. My brother Allie died at the age of 10 from Leukemia. His death hit me really hard, so in this book your'e going to read about me talking to my psychologist about my life.
Scene 1: Holden talks about Allie's baseball mitt.
For Chrissake, Holden. This is about a goddam baseball glove." (Salinger 46).
All right, give it back to me, then, (I Went over and pulled it right out of his goddamn hand. Then I tore it up.) (Salinger 47).
Scene 2: Holden sees "F*** You" on the walls at Phoebe's school
I saw something that drove me crazy. Somebody'd written "F*** you" on the wall. It drove me damn near crazy ... I kept wanting to kill whoever'd written it. I kept picturing myself catching him and smash his head on the stone steps ... I wouldn't have the guts to fo it and that made me even more depressed. (Salinger 221).
Depression and Sadness is something that Holden Caulfield experiences in this novel, 'Catcher in the Rye.' During scene one Holden is getting upset because Stadlater didn't like how Holden wrote about Allie's baseball glove. In scene two Holden gets depressed because he sees the words "F*** you" all over the walls at his sister, Phoebes' school.
During this scene in the novel. Stradlater had asked Holden to right a composition for him while he went on a date with Jane. Holden wrote about his brother Allie's baseball mitt because it had poems written all over it, and he wrote some of them into the composition. Stradlater didn't like how it was about a baseball mitt because he wanted it to be about a room or a house not a "goddamn baseball glove."
During this scene Holden goes to Phoebe's school to take her a note. As he starting going up the stairs to the principals office, he sees the words "F*** you" all over the walls. Holden starts getting upset because he starts thinking about what Phoebe and all of the of young kids would think when they saw.
