  • I"m Parliament and the King sucks!
  • I believe Divine Rights of Kings is the only way to go. 
  • I'm the king's son and Parliament sucks!
  • then we shall fight!
  • Charles, it appears it is your time to go... 
  • GOD WHY!??
  • James I believed in Divine Rights of Kings, as well as his son Charles I. 1628 Parliament tried to limit the kings powers, Petition of Power.
  • 1660

  • absolutely no Divine Rights and no threats towards Parliament! 
  • 1642, The start of the Civil War. The Cavaliers were supporters of the king, and the Roundheads are supporters of Parliament. (Red- Cavaliers, Blue- Roundheads.)  
  • Oliver Cromwell leader of Parliament, beheads King Charles. (First monarch to lose head in public.) Cromwell ruled until he died in 1658.
  • I present to you all, The Bill of Rights.

  • 1660, Charles ll (the son of Charles l) is made king. He said no Divine Rights and Parliament's authority will not be threatened. 1685, James ll becomes king (Charles' brother). 
  • William of Orange and Mary of Orange were encouraged by English nobles to invade and take over. In 1689, William and Mary accepted the throne. 
  • The Bill of Rights laid the foundation to a constitutional monarchy. Monarchy and Parliament ruled together and destroyed the theory of Divine Rights of Kings.
