  • Dred Scott was born in 1795 as a slave to Peter Blow
  • Dred Scott spent most of his early life with Peter Blow until he died  in the 1830's and was then sold to John Emerson an Army Surgeon
  • Dred Scott traveled and lived in the free territories while with Emerson and fell in love with Harriett Robinson another slave and got married
  • Shortly after John Emerson died and Dred Scott and his wife were left with his wife he sued her for his freedom in 1847 on the fact that he lived in the Free territories winning at first
  • Although winning at first, after John Sanford came to protest the case eventually made it to the supreme court where they decided that Dred Scott and his wife would remain a slave
  • On September 17, 1858 Dred Scott died, he never got his freedom from the court but the court ruling caused debate in the north who wanted to see him free.
