In the town of Vladimir, there lived a merchant named Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov. He owns two shops and a house where he lived with his wife and children.
While on his way to the fair, he met a fellow merchant.
Hello there! My name is Ivan and I'm pleased to meet you
A merchant was found dead with his throat slit, so the police interrogated Ivan. When the police searched his things, a knife was found in his luggage so he was accused of killing the other merchant.
He couldn't prove his innocence so he was charged for murder and was sent to Siberia for a long time.
He then met a new inmate who he later discovered as the real killer of the other merchant he was accused of killing.
Even with the knowledge that Makar was the real killer, Ivan didn't reveal that Makar attempted to escape.
Makar apologized to Ivan for framing him. Makar offered to clear his name but it was too late. He died the next morning.
