  • "My name's Beatrice Judge. I've been waiting for you to arrive. Welcome to Darlington Hall." (Pg. 7)
  • With a grunt of anger, she punched him in the stomach. (Pg. 7)
  • Propels The Action by...
  • Through the merest crack between his lids, he glimpsed Mitch raise his brass-covered knuckles. (Pg. 60)
  • "He's out cold already, ' Mitch said. 'Let's make it a little colder." (Pg. 60)
  • Outcome
  • "Dimly, he realized the window was actually the rear doors of a van, standing open." (Pg. 63)
  • "This is an ambulance,' James realized." (Pg. 63)
  • James has just arrived at Dartington Hall when Beatrice Judge randomly punches him. He has no idea why she did it.
  • Initial Dialogue or Event
  • "A big, dark-suited man in a fedora, a handkerchief tied around his nose and mouth, was charging towards him." (Pg .48)
  • After Beatrice fails to stops James from going on the trip, she tells her brother to do it. Her brother gets a crew and tricks James into trusting them after which they started hitting him and beating him up.
  • Propels The Action by...
  • "Facing him across the lounge of the airship was Fedora Man." (Pg. 79)
  • After both confrontations, James ends up in an ambulance going to the hospital instead of the airfield that would take him on the trip.
  • Outcome
  • "Fedora Man nodded. Once I saw how badly they wanted to get you, James, and since they already had Boudica and Daniel, I figured I had to move fast." (Pg. 270)
  • "He found me and Gillian, told us we were in danger, said Hugo excitedly." (Pg. 271)
  • James first sees the fedora man in the theatre where they were hiding the film. The first time James saw him was when he was charging towards him.
  • "James turned and ran like hell, heart pounding like that of a racehorse closing the last thirty yards to the finish post." (Pg .48)
  • When James sees the man again, he is sure that the fedora man is dangerous. This puts no doubt in James mind that the Fedora Man is trying to kill him.
  • "He turned his back on the man, heart beating so fast he felt sick." (Pg. 79)
  • James finds out that the Fedora Man is actually a British Secret agent who knows about the whole thing. The guy that James thought would kill him, ended up saving him.
