This the case of the murder of Janie's husband.

Janie is put on trial for Tea Cake's murder.
While most of the black community are against her, the white women are on her side.
He was goin' crazy after that dog bit him.
Dr. Simmons testifies on Janie's bhelaf and the ultimatum is she is innocent.
Tea Cake will always be in my heart.
Janie is happy yet devastated. She throws an elaborate funeral for Tea Cake and she returns to Eatonville.
After not seeing Pheoby for a long time, she begins to tell her story on what had happened to her. Pheoby promises Jane that she will protect her form the snark comments the women in the town are making towards her.
Janie finally realizes that her soul is at rest because she loved Tea Cake. After marrying three men and accidentally killing one, she is glad she is done finding love. "Of course he wasn't dead. He could never be dead until she herself had finished feeling and thinking. The kiss of his memory made pictures of love and light against the wall. Here was peace" (Hurtson 219).
