  • A good example of European Imperialism is when the British took over India. This lead to many good things and bad things.
  • Some people were okay with the elites ruling. People in the Indian National Congress supported Western modernization because it would sometimes help them.
  • A good outcome of British ruling was the ban of sati. This saved many women who's husbands passed away. This cruel tradition was eliminated. Purdah was optional
  • A negative effect of British rule is that since there was so many farmland it caused deforestation. Because of the large amount of farmland there was Great Britain claimed India as their sphere of influence.
  • Because Great Britain were India's protectorate they were trained for war. But most Sepoys were really unhappy on the way they were trained because they found out that the cartridges they were using contained pork grease, in their religion pork was forbidden
  • The viceroy of India agreed that this was offensive to the sepoys and a rebellion spark, called the Sepoy rebellion.
