The three governor controversy.
Blacks sued the state due to the fact they were denied the right of voting. The US supreme court ruled them unconstitutional.
Governor Ellis Arnall did not fight the ruling of the blacks after they lost the case.
In 1946 there was a election to elect the governor where 3 men claimed to have won the election. Eugene Talmadge was righfully re-elected as the governor but he died before he could take office
Melvin E. Thompson
Melvin Thompson took it upon himself to move into office without permission. But the current governor ( Ellis Arnall ) decided not to give up office util the matter was resolved.
In conclusion Eugene Talmadge's son "Herman Talmadge" was elected in a special election two years later in 1948 as an special election.
