  • STAMP ACT In 1765 the  British parliament exacted revenue from the American colonies by imposing a stamp duty on newspapers and legal and commercial documents.
  • INTOLERABLE ACTS The Intolerable Acts were punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. ... In Great Britain, these laws were referred to as the Coercive Acts.
  • SONS OF LIBERTY This secret organization began, principally in Connecticut and New York, to protest against the Stamp Act (1765). It was dedicated to working for freedom and liberty in the 13 British colonies.
  • BATTLE OF LEXINGTON AND CONCORD The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. The battles were fought on April 19, 1775 in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy, and Cambridge.
  • FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS On September 5, 1774, delegates from each of the 13 colonies except for Georgia (which was fighting a Native-American uprising and was dependent on the British for military supplies) met in Philadelphia as the First Continental Congress to organize colonial resistance to Parliament's Coercive Acts.
  • SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that started meeting in the spring of 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It succeeded the First Continental Congress, which met in Philadelphia between September 5, 1774, and October 26, 1774.
