  • Getting Their Pay
  • You were given your forms of pay don't come complaining to us!
  • Attention! Starting this Sunday taxes will be raised!
  • States Debt
  • Daniel, how are you going to pay these taxes?
  • Just to start I'm going to sell my sword to keep my family up. Then I'm not putting up with this anymore!
  • Alright boys lets shut this thing down so we don't get arrested.
  • August 29th, North Hampton
  • The veterans of the Revolutionary War were paid by certificates that were worth more money the later you cashed them in.
  • September 25th-28th
  • The states had debts too so they decided to pay them off through taxes. This just put another burden on the farmers. Daniel Shays had enough.
  • Shays New Plan
  • Sneak Attack! That's what we'll do, we need weapons anyway. Our target: the town arsenal.
  • On August 29th, the angry farmers stormed and closed the Hampshire County Court in Northampton, putting all foreclosures to a stop.
  • Editors Obervations
  • On September 25th through the 28th Shays and his men sat in the Springfield courthouse so the court could not take anyone's farms or throw them in jail.
  • Shays new plan was to spring a sneak attack on a nearby arsenal. He thought they wouldn't have to put up a big fight and were surprised with the outcome.
