  • The United States of America was unprepared for war because the United States  had a small army and not everyone supported the war.
  • The White House Burned
  • On September 10, 1813, England and America had a battle on Lake Erie, and America destroyed the British naval force.
  • The Treaty of Ghent
  • In March of 1814, Andrew Jackson led United State forces to attack the Creeks. As a result of the American victory, the Creeks were forced to give up most of their land.
  • The Battle of New Orleans
  • In August of 1814, England burned down the White House, after they overpowered  the American militia. Fortunately, a thunderstorm took out the fires before it could burn the entire White House.
  • In December of 1814, America and England met in Ghent, Belgium, to sign a peace treaty. This ended the war of 1812.
  • On January 8, 1815, America and England fought in The Battle of New Orleans. Andrew Jackson led American troops to victory, helping him win the presidency in 1828.
