- Its not safe here anymore, the Dust Storms are destroying our farm.
- The Dust Bowl destroyed any agricultural advancements causing farmers to go look for work in cities.
- I know, we have to move to the city to find jobs.
- Smoot-Hawley Tariff which put on a special tax over 20,000 types of imported goods.
- US imports decreased 66% from 4.4 Billion (1929) to 1.5 Billion (1933)
- This new tariff is hurting production and revenue.
- Children started dropping out of school and parents had trouble finding work.
- This depression is brutal, being an Okie it is very hard to find a job.
- I know, this family is falling apart.
