Storyboard Text

  • Introduction Montresor runs into Fortunato at the festival and discusses the Amontillado and begins to bait Fortunato into following him into the catacombs.
  • I could go see Luchresi instead...
  • No! It's OK! He can't tell Amontillado from Sherry!
  • Rising action As they enter the catacombs, Fortunato begins to cough, but insists that they continue to the Amontillado. Montresor uses reverse psychology, offering Fortunato an opportunity to leave.
  • *coughs violently*
  • Should we head back.... I can always ask Luchresi...
  • Rising action Montresor ironically toasts to Fortunato's long life and Fortunato toasts to the dead buried around them (unintentionally ironically).
  • A toast to your long life!
  • I chose to give Fortunato a jester's outfit to fit Poe's description and I gave him lighter features to contrast with those of Montresor. I gave Montresor red eyes because red is the color of revenge. I added a crowd behind them to show that they were at a festival.
  • Climax Montresor chains up the very drunk Fortunado who still wonders about the Amontillado.
  • Ah.. yes! The Amontillado!
  • I chose to put the two characters in a stairwell to mirror Poe's setting. The downward motion reflects Fortunato's own fate. I gave Fortunato a worried look because he does not want to be replaced. He wants to drink the Amontillado.
  • Falling action Montresor begins building the wall and Fortunado hopes that it is all a joke.(the alcohol wears off)
  • No No! I am fine!
  • HaHaHa.... you're kidding right!?
  • I put the characters in a long hall that evokes Poe's setting in the story. I gave Montresor a bottle of wine for them to toast with (ironically) and provided another for the skeleton to represent the toast Fortunato makes to the dead.
  • Resolution This is when Montresor calls out to Fortunado and gets no reply. He finally hears the sound of the bells, which sickens him and he leaves the stone covered in bones.
  • Fortunado!?
  • I decided to keep Fortunato's face happy because he is still drunk and does not fully understand the danger he is in. I added wine to the shelves filled with bones because the catacombs were also well stocked with wine.
  • I chose to give him a trowel because he is laying the stones and I chose to have the wall half built because that is when Fortunado first realizes that he may die; explaining his suprised look.
  • I chose to have him in a more relaxed or calm pose to show his satisfaction after chaining up Fortunado behind the stone wall. I also decided to make him be calling out to Fortunado trying to get a reaction, but hearing the "sickening" bells instead. I chose to take off the diffused light filter on Montresor to show that he has completed his task and a burden has been lifted.
