From this part in the story, we see Abigail's true colors. She shows a fake facade of how she is a sweet young girl, but in reality she is a bad girl. Abigail yells at Betty to keep her mouth shut about what really happened because she knows the consequences.
In this scene, we see that Parris is very protective over his reputation. He can sometimes come across as paranoid of what people think of him. We see in this quote that there are people that judge Parris and that is why he is so protective over his reputation.
Abigail seems to be very reactive. She likes to put the blame on others rather than accept the responsibility of her actions. She hides behind the fact that she is a "good girl" when she really isn't.
