1) The mountain men explored most of the west in their search for furs (were able to make maps out of where they have been)
2) They went across mountains and desert, which later became the California and Oregon Trails
3) The trading posts in which they traded furs with other goods then became supply stations for later settlers moving west
4) Other mountain menś personal journals were left for us to read to know what they experienced and tell stories about their traveling
