There once lived a poor woodcutter with his wife and his two children.
"oh, you fool, then all four of us will starve."
"we shall abandon them in the woods. Then there will be 2 less mouths to feed.
"what is to become of us ? How can we feed our children when we have nothing for ourselves ?"
"I will not do that. How could I bring myself to abandon my own children alone in the woods?
"i guess we have no choice."
They all set out to the woods and when they arrived a large fire was made. When the flames were burning well, the woman said to the children:
"Lie down by the fire and rest. We will go into the woods to cut wood. When we are finished, we will come back and get you."
Hours passed and the father and step mother never showed up. So the children set out to find their way home... but they did not find it. Instead they came across a white bird. They followed it until they came to a little house made entirely from bread with a roof made of cake, and the windows were made of clear sugar.
"Let's help ourselves to a good meal,"
Then she served them a good meal and afterward she made two nice beds for them. Hansel and Gretel went to bed, thinking they were in heaven. But what the children didn't know was that she was an evil witch who fed on children.
so the children ate without being distracted, until Suddenly the door opened, and a woman, as old as the hills and leaning on a crutch, came creeping out. She took them by the hand and led them into her house.
"Oh, you dear children, who brought you here? Just come in and stay with me. No harm will come to you."
So after the first night the witch locked up Hansel and forced Gretel to help her with making him fat. So everyday the witch would check if Hansel had gotten fat by checking his finger, but he would stick out a little bone which she believed was Hansel's finger, and wonder why he wasn't getting fat. After 4 weeks the witch grew impatient and decided she was going to eat him right away.
so the witch ordered Gretel to get into the oven to see if it was hot enough, but Gretel knew better and said that she didn't know how, and when the witch stuck her head into the oven Gretel pushed her in.
Now all their cares were at an end, and they lived happily together.
After unlocking the cage that Hansel was in, the children went into the witch's house and found many pearls and precious stones. They filled their pockets then ran away from the house and into the woods. After walking for a while the woods grew more and more familiar to them and they finally made it home to their father, who had felt sorrowful everyday without his children. He was very happy to see them and after discovering that the stepmother was dead, the children both emptied out their pockets.
