Storyboard Text

  • Alexander III had been travelling from Edinburgh to Kinghorn in Fife on a stormy night and was found dead the next day.
  • This was a succession crisis for Scotland as he died with no child to take the throne.
  • The 6 guardians were elected at the Palace of Scone to run the government.
  • This means that we have to rule until she arrives, take care of Margret and find her a husband.
  • Agreed!
  • How about Alexander's granddaughter Margaret, the Maid of Norway could be Queen?
  • Soon, Edward suggested that the Maid of Norway would marry his son, Edward.
  • -Edward's son will have to marry her. -Scotland will remain independent. -All decisions will be made in Scotland. -The agreement would only be finalised once the marriage took place.
  • Therefore, the Treaty of Birgham was signed in 1290.
