A-Hi! Welcome to Medical Minute, brought to you by the PCEP STEM/CTE programs. T- Today's topic is the Respiratory system.
A- As you all probably know, your respiratory system is what makes you breathe. But, do you know how you breathe?
T- According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute(NHLBI), the main organ in the respiratory system is your lungs, but your respiratory system also includes your airway, linked blood vessels, and your diaphragm muscle.
A-Underneath your lungs in a muscle called the diaphragm. When you inhale, or breathe in, your diaphragm contracts, or pulls down. This makes your lungs inhale.
T- When the diaphragm relaxes, it moves upwards. This pushes all the air in your lungs out, causing you to exhale.
Both- This has been your medical minute. Have a great day!
