I didn't like being at the doctor or hospital and when they made me stay I made it difficult for my loved ones and the hospital staff.
Truthfully the hardest part was people not being able to understand me. I told them repeatedly that I didn't want to be there and I just wanted to go home to my apartment.
Eventually I found a doctor that knew something about what I was going through and had an idea about what it was. Dr. Najjar was the doctor that figured out what was wrong with me.
He did a brain biopsy and discovered that I had a mental illness. We weren't certain what illness right away. They started me on medication that made me get better slowly.
My final diagnosis was anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. I didn't know what that was but it wasn't a shock to Dr. Najjar. He explained to me he has seen this before.
Now, I am done with the medication. I have learned a lot about what I've had and it will always be a part of me.
