Storyboard Text

  • Newtons 1st law- If an object is not pushed or pulled upon its velocity will naturally remain constant.
  • Ex 2- A ball in the air will remain the same speed until the batter hits it or someone catches it.
  • Ex 1- If a ball is rolling on the ground it will remain the same speed unless someone/something acts on it.
  • Potential- The stored energy in an object.
  • Kinetic and Potential Energy
  • Ex 1- (Kinetic)A ground-ball has kinetic energy because its rolling which means it has energy. Ex 2- A pitchers arms has energy when she throws the ball because her arms have energy.
  • Ex 1-(Potential) A bat that is about to hit a ball has potential energy because the bat hasn't swung for the ball yet. Ex 2- The pitchers ball in the glove has stored energy because it hasn't been thrown.
  • Kinetic- Energy something gets when it is in motion.
  • Ex 2-When you throw the ball to the first baseman the force goes in the 1st baseman's direction.
  • Newtons 2nd law- If you place force on an object it will accelerate and it will change its velocity in the direction of the force.
  • Ex 1-If you swing your bat to the left the ball is likely to go left, since that is where the force was directed.
  • Newtons 3rd law- Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
  • Ex 1- When you hit a ball with the bat the bat exerts force onto the ball. The ball also exerts force onto the bat.
  • Ex 2- When you throw a ball it exerts force into your hand just like you exert force into it.
  • Net force- Two or more forces acting on an object.
