Storyboard Text

  • Here is your inheritance. Please don't use it to buy sheep.
  • I want to travel so I'm becoming a shepherd!
  • Your personal legend is your purpose in life...
  • I just wanted to read my book by myself...
  • Santiago was traveling with his sheep towards a nearby village to sell wool. The last time he was in the village he met the most wonderful girl who had raven hair and loved to hear of all his travels and adventures.
  • As Santiago journeyed onward, he thought about how he came to be a shepherd. His dream had always been to travel but he lived in the country with his parents and they did not have the money to travel. Santiago decided to leave and become a shepherd and see the world.
  • Santiago travelled for many days with his sheep. After a disappointing visit with a dream interpreter, he met an old man in the city plaza. The old man told Santiago of personal legends and how to follow his destiny. Santiago's goal was to find treasure in Egypt (which is what his dream described).
  • The old man encouraged Santiago to follow his dream and so Santiago set sail for Africa from Spain. Santiago had to sell his sheep so he had money to cross to Africa. He took his money and the Urim and Thummim (stones that interpret omens)
  • After he arrived in Africa, he went to a restaurant to rest from his journey and decide where to go. A boy about Santiago's age told him to hand over his money and follow him to get to Egypt. Santiago gave his money to the boy and followed him through the market but got distracted by a sword and got lost.
  • Penniless and lost, Santiago found his way to a crystal shop up a hill. He offered to clean the crystal for the shop owner in exchange for food. He decided to stay and help the crystal merchant in exchange for money to get to Egypt.
