This railroad transported fugitives and escaped slaves trying to find freedom. Usually they wore disguises guided by the North Star. Conductors hid the fugitives in barns, basements, and other secret places to not be found.
The most famous conductor was Harriet Tubman. She led more than 300 slaves to slavery, not including herself. She never lost a single fugitive. She was wanted and if found at one time the reward was $40,000.00
