  • Right now we have 11 free states and 12 slave states. If there are 12 slave states then we get a smaller voice in congress.

  • They opposed the compromise also because they didn’t want another slave state in the United States, and it would disrupt the balance. Northern Democrats in the House were split almost evenly on the vote, and many Northerners became convinced that a compromise with the South could not be reached.

  • Northerners were against slavery while the south wasn't and believed slaves should be allowed. They didn’t want any slave states because it would disrupt balance. They wanted equal representation

  • It would give the slave states more power and more representation to the south.  Slave states would create more slaves, and the north was trying to abolish slavery. Slave states would mean more delegates and senators from the the slave states.

  • The were allowed to own slaves, and their slaves were not taken away. Also would give power in congress. They have more representation, and or more of a voice in congress.

  • Southern slave states believed that they should have more power. And on the other hand, the northerners believed they should be the ones to have more power, and they should have the right to abolish slavery. They also believed that slaves were property and they couldn't be taken away. 
  •  Southern slave states were scared that they wouldn't be allowed to own slaves. They didn’t want their slaves taken away. Without slaves there wouldn't be any economy.
