Hi my name is Ashley and I'm going to show how an ice cube goes through phase changes and turns into different states of matter using kinetic energy.
Hello my name is Bill. Today, we are going to talk about and show you the three states of matter which are solids, liquids, and gases.
The reason why solids have a definite shape and volume is because the particles in a solid vibrate around fixed locations.
Right now we are both a solid called ice. A solid has a definite shape and a definite volume.
a solid can either go through a phase change called sublimation by adding heat or a solid can go through melting.
When a solid goes to a liquid this is a phase change called melting. A liquid has a definite volume but not a definite shape.
All particles are in constant random motion which means they are always all moving.
Once the water is done evaporating it goes into a phase change called condensation where a gas turns into a liquid. A gas has no specific shape or size.
After a solid melts and become a liquid the liquid evaporates into the air and become a cloud.
Once the water turns into a gas it can either turn back into a liquid or it can turn into hail/ice and go back into a solid. If it were to turn back into a solid that would be a phase change called deposistion.
Another thing that could happen is the water from the cloud could fall to the ground and meet the freezing point and that would be a phase change called freezing
