Storyboard Text

  • Today is a grave day, for the great pharaoh Ramses II has died. However, he will soon be on his way to the afterlife! In order to ensure his happiness and immortality in the afterlife, we must put him through a process called embalming.
  • Hello; my name is Amon. I will be your guide for the mummification process.
  • This is my assistant, Set. First, we're going to remove the brain using a hook. This has to be done carefully, because the hook enters through the nostrils and it could damage the nose.
  • Next, we have to remove his organs. Certain organs have gods or goddesses that protect them. Qebehsenuef is the falcon-headed god that protects the intestines.
  • The god of the stomach is Duamutef, who has the head of a jackal. Human-headed Imsety is the god of the liver. Hapy has the head of a baboon and protects the lungs. These four organs are placed in canopic jars and will be placed in the tomb with the mummy.
  • We will not remove the heart. The heart is the center of the person as a whole and his or her intelligence and feelings.
  • Now, we have to dry out his body. Moisture in a corpse will cause it to decay faster. We will fill Ramses II with packets of natron. Natron is a type of salt. To make sure that there will be absolutely no moisture in Ramses's body, we must also cover him entirely with natron.
  • We have to wait for his body to dry. I'll see you again in 40 days!
