Madame Loisel is very unhappy with her life and the way her home and clothes look. She is desperately wanting a better social life so her husband Monsieur Loisel gets her an invite to a party with many people.
She does not want to go because she does not have a nice dress to wear. Her husband gives her the money he had been saving up for a while now for a gun so she can get a nice dress. she then barrows a nice necklace from her friend.
Madame Loisel enjoys herself at the party as she was getting compliments and praise from all these people at the party. She felt so beautiful and happy. Then her and her husband leave the party and find a cab to get home.
Once she gets home she realizes that her friends necklace is no longer on her neck. She yells to her husband and he searches everywhere they had been since they left the party. So they go to the store to find one alike and pay thirty-six thousand to get it after many loans.
Loisel gives her friend the lookalike necklace they bought without telling how she lost her original one. The Loisels spend 10 years rebuilding and paying for all the loans the had for the necklace. Madame has grown old with all the hard work shes done in the past years.
She later goes on a walk and sees her old friend Madame Forestier who still look young and hasn't aged. She goes up and talks to her and tells her the the story of the necklace and her friend tells her the necklace was just paste and was not worth more than five hundred.
