In chapter one we discovered how Equality lives and how society works. We discovered one of the society rules when Equality stated "It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see"(Rand 1).
Equality found a tunnel that had a bigger meaning behind it, he stated "We knew suddenly that this place was left from the Unmentionable Times"(Rand 32). Speaking of the Unmentionable Times is against the rules which makes this important.
Equality saw a girl, he thought she was beautiful, he thought about her a lot. We as readers know Equality admired her when he exclaimed " Their eyes were dark and glowing, with no fear in them, no kindness and no guilt... Their hair was golden as the sun..."(Rand 42).
The Saint of Pyre was burned due to that fact that he spoke the Unspeakable Word. Equality watched and stated " There was no pain in their eyes and no knowledge of the agony of their body. There was only joy in them, and pride, a pride holier that it is fit for human pride to be"(Rand 51).

In chapter four both Liberty and Equality give each other nicknames. The nicknames they give each other are how they view the other person. Equality stated "The Golden One"(Rand 55). After hearing this Liberty stated Equality's nickname "The Unconquered"(Rand 56).
