Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17th, 1706. He was the tenth son of Josiah Franklin. Benjamin's mother was Abiah Folger.
Josiah intended for Benjamin to enter into the clergy. However Josiah could only afford to send his son to school for one year and clergyman needed years of schooling.
But, as young Benjamin loved to read, he had him apprenticed to his brother James, who was a printer.
Quote: Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.
After helping James compose pamphelts and set type which was grueling work, 12 year old Benjamin would sell their products in the streets.
He was one of the few men at the Constitutional Convention of 1787 to take a public stand against slavery.
Benjamin helped to draft both the Declaration of independence and the constitution of the united states.
