  • Weak Leadership
  • Do this, do that
  • Okay whatever you say
  • Unfair Taxation
  • Why do have to pay most of our hard earned money on taxes?
  • I don't know but I'm sick and tired of it!!
  • Tennis Court Oath
  • One of the main causes of the French Revolution was having a weak leader. Louis XVI was indecisive and didn't pay attention to government advisers. The queen added to his problems she interfered  with government business, gave bad advice, and her actions made the situation worse.
  • Unfair Representation
  • Another main cause of the French Revolution was unfair taxation. The 3rd estate paid 50% of their income in taxes. The richer people from the 2nd and 1st estate had to pay less than 2% of their income in taxes. Nobles owned 20% of the land and barely paid any taxes on it.
  • National Assembly Take the Church
  • When the 3rd estate delegates were locked out of the meeting room they went to the tennis court and had a protest known as the tennis court oath. This helped cause the revolution because this was the first time that the nobles joined which forced Louis to station his army around Versailles.
  • King Louis Gets Executed
  • The French Revolution was also caused by the uneven representation in the government for the third estate. The third estate had 98% of the population and the first and second made up 2% of the population. Even with those numbers all of the estates got 1 vote and the first and second estate always voted against the thirrd estate for their benefit.
  • The National Assembly took control of the Catholic Church because they taught it had to much power. They took over the church's lands and declared that the officials were elected and paid as state officials. This also lost the power of the National Assembly because many of the peasants that made up most of the population were major supporters of the church. This move by the National Assembly lost many followers and supporters.
  • Kill him
  • The national convention turned Louis XVI from the king into a prisoner. He was tried for treason by the Jacobins, once found guilty he was sentenced to death. Once he was killed there were no ties left to the monarchy, France then was under more control from the Jacobins. It leads to the leadership of Robespierre and the reign of terror.
