  • The Kansas Nebraska Act causes many people from both slave and non slave states to rush into Kansas and vote illegally. In response, anti-slavery settlers countered by drafting a constitution which prohibited slavery.
  • This is crazy. As an officer there's rarely anything I can do
  • Ultimately, this would lead to violence between the North and the South and a small Civil War known as "Bleeding Kansas" in 1861.
  • On the floor of the US senate in 1856, Charles Sumner calls out slave owners in their face with heavy passion.  In response Preston Brooks canes  and almost kills him. Charles is disabled and unable to work for up to three years prior to the incident.
  • John Brown and his several sons slaughtered five men in revenge for the attack on Lawrence, Kansas and the caning of Charles Sumner. This is also known as the Pottawatomie Massacre of 1856.
  • John Brown's goal of invading the south and creating a slave rebellion are failure. He goes on trial and is found guilty of first degree murder on slave masters. He is executed and hanged to death in a crowd.
