- "Kino heard the little splash of morning waves on the beach. It was very good- Kino closed his eyes again to listen to his music. In Kino's head there was a song now, clear and soft, and if he had been able to speak of it, he would have called it the Song of the Family. "
- "Kino hesitated a moment. This doctor was not of his people. This doctor was of a race which for nearly four hundred years had beaten, starved, and robbed, and despised Kino's race, and frightened them, too. He could kill the doctor more easily than he could talk to him."
- "Kino's grew dark and dangerous. "It is worth fifty thousand,"he said. "You know it. You want to cheat me." "But, Kino had grown tight and hard. He felt the creeping of fate, the circling of wolves, the hover of cultures. He felt the evil coagulating about him, and he was helpless to protect himself."
- In chapter 6, a man with a gun tries to shoot at the direction of the crying. The bullet hit Coyotito and killed the baby. Kino had killed all of the men... Kino had blood on his hands.
- In chapter 5, Juana caught her eyes onto the pearl and tried to throw it back into the sea. Kino saw as she tried and he struck her, he beat Juana because of what she did.
- In chapter 6, Kino realizes all the evil that the pearl holds and how it destroyed his life and his family. He is so depressed and felt grief.. much for Coyotito.
