  • " Go tell that man we ain't a bunch of trees."  Granny doesn't want the men taking pictures of her without permission like they're inanimate objects
  • Theme
  • When the men approach, one says "We thought we'd get a shot or two of the house and everything and then--" Granny cuts him off with "Good mornin," with her tone showing anything but friendliness.
  • Simile
  • The men came up to Granny with a camera which upset her.  They didn't ask for her permission to take pictures of her property.
  • Foreshadowing
  • The theme is to respect people no matter what.
  • "But like Cathy say, folks can't stand Granddaddy tall and silent and like a king."  The narrator compares Granddaddy to a king.
  • When Granddaddy held out his hand, it foreshadowed that he wanted the camera to break it.
