  • In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as president, which ended up being the last straw for the South and so they seceeded
  • The North and South had various differences. This caused sectionalism.
  • In 1863 Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's army converged on Vicksburg on Confederate armies and it was a brilliant union win.
  • The battle of Antietam was known as the bloodiest war, as it took place in Maryland D.C. The union won, but there were over 2,300 casulities
  • Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclimation, freeing all slaves 
  • Three Union Leaders: Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, and Fredrick Douglas
  • Three Confederate leaders were: Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson
