  • I didn't realize that this was one of my favorite scenes until the end of the book when we learned that the dead man on the floor of the house was Huck's father. While this was sad, it was one of my favorite scenes because Jim knew that the man was Huck's father and he wouldn't let Huck see his face because he was trying to protect Huck. This showed that, even though they had only been together for so long, he already cared a lot about Huck.
  • "De man ain't asleep- he's dead. You hold still- I'll go en see."
  • I liked this scene because I was so worried that Jim drowned when the raft was hit by the steamboat! When the Grangerford's slave brought Huck into the woods, I was not expecting him to lead him to Jim! I was so relieved and excited to find out that Jim was alive and also the raft wasn't broken!
  • "You shove right in dah jist a few steps, Mars Jawge; dah's whah dey is. I's seed 'm befo'; I don't k'yer to see 'em no mo'."

  • I thought this scene was absolutely hilarious! The fact that the boys were tricking Aunt Sally about the simplest thing was so funny to me! I think I liked this scene so much because I could relate a bit to Aunt Sally. I have messed up my counting without anyone messing with me!
  • This was also one of my favorite scenes from the book because it made me laugh. Huck hid the bread and butter under his hat and when he went into the room full of men it started to melt and Aunt Sally got all scared because she thought he had brain fever!
  • "For the land's sake, what is the matter with the child? He's got the brain-fever as shore as you're born, and they're oozing out!"
