'"You're Laurel, right?'...'You wanna sit with me and my friends at lunch?" (3).
"The bump was gone...something else had replaced it...petal-like strips had risen from her back where the bump had been..." (45).
"'Excuse me? 'Just what do you mean by that?" (85).

Laurel just moved and started highschool after years of being home schooled. Laurel has always been know to love nature, with her first day at school she meets a boy named David, later becoming her best friend.
After a couple days past Laurel started to develop a huge bump on her back, this bump worried Laurel sick! One morning when she woke up, it sprouted a enourmuse white flower, as if they were wings.
"'Not here; this address is on my card. I've got enough blood to clean up as it is.' He crouched down again and looked back and forth between them for a long minute. 'You like to swim?'"
After covering this huge flower at school for so long she went out behind her old property for one last time for a walk discovering a boy named Tumani. Laurel later finds out she was a plant and so was Tumani. She told David later in the story, even taking tests on her "blood". They all become great friends though.
"'You've always been a flower'...'You're a plant, not a human, never have been" (85).
Laurel was also told by Tumani her old house was sacred property, and it could NOT be sold! So David and Laurel set out to find this buyer. The buyer lived in a creepy, old, and creeky house.
"the window was just short enough to peek into while kneeling on the ground...Laurel took several calming breaths, then turned her head to look into the window" (206).
After sneaking around the house Laurel and David were pulled through the window by a huge hand. The buyer's name was Barnes, and he was a "troll",he had two henchmen with him and were planning on buying the land to remove the "plants" and get to their world. At this point, Barnes had said they heard too much and had to get rid of them.
