Mr. H has a secret: he is a time traveler. Join us as he goes to Albania the last country to democratize leading to the fall of the last communist country in Central and Eastern Europe.
Albania you say? Of course! Just give me one second...
Hi Mr. H, I was wondering if you can explain more about the fall of Communism in Albania? I have an Aunt there and I wanted to know more!
"Did you know: Albania was the last communist nation in Europe to fall in the revolutions in 1989?"
One year from now, the first real democratic elections will take place! But, lets see what is going on now!
Albania, in 1991! The year the citizens of Albania demanded an end to communist oppression.
What huh? Where are we?!?!
Down with Communist Oppression
Students at the University of Tirana held mass protests, asking for the legalization of multiple political parties and democratic elections.
The student protests filled the streets and reached around 3,000 protesters in the city of Tirana. Police and protesters clashed.
The Democratic Party won the elections in 1992, hence leading to democracy replacing the Communist regime in Albania. THE END
Talks were held between the Communists and the opposition leading to the creation of two parties: the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party. The Socialists won the 1991 elections, but because of the corrupt nature of this election, the leaders stepped down leading to another election in 1992.
