Alice Cogswell, daughter of a wealthy sergon, was deafened in childhood by a terrible fever.
Alice met Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, after he learned of her disability from her father.
And this is my sweet little Alice
Gallaudet headed off to America with Laurent Clerc, determined to start a school for deaf children after learning that they do not get the right treatment in Europe
Off we go!
Laurent Clerc gave many speeeches to raise money to start a school in the 1800's

On April 15, 1817, Laurent Clerc and Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet opend the first school for the deaf in America
