  • Kerensky escaped from Petrograd and tried to raise troops from the front, while the rest of the government remained in the Winter Palace. He could secure no further help.
  • Lenin formed a government called the Council of People's Commissars. This had an all-Bolshevik membership. Lenin was the head of the government; Leon Trotsky was Commissar of Foreign Affairs; and Joseph Stalin was Commissar of Nationalities.
  • The Bolsheviks were forced into action and Lenin ordered the revolution to begin before Kerensky could capture them.
