What do you think of the new law on alcohol that's gonna be passed?
Oh yeah! Paula's Law? That's the one I think Senator Applegate is trying to get passed.
Hmm... I don't exactly know what's going on with it. I don't think I know much about the context. Why are they all of a sudden trying to regulate alcohol?
Senator Applegate's daughter Paula passed away in a DWI accident. It turns out that there's some genetics involved in it; apparently, there's a gene that can influence alcoholic behavior. Both Senator Applegate and Paula supposedly have this gene, so the government is trying to control that in case there are other such people
Oh really? That's... wow.
Yeah... Personally I don't agree with it. It could lead to potential genetic discrimination, especially in the work force. I mean, with the law in effect, it's already happening with the alcohol...
I agree with you on that. Besides, I'm pretty sure there's more than one gene that influences behavior. Even though there COULD be a chance of becoming an alcoholic doesn't mean it will happen. After all, it's the choices we make that affect us.
Yeah. And I'm sure people are going to side-step it anyway. Just like during the Prohibition in the 1920s...
Oh no! I just realized that my paper on the 1920's is due tomorrow and I didn't even start!
Oh wow... But then again, what else is new? Instead of side-stepping the law, you're side-stepping the homework!
