14,000 million hectares of land for $14,000, it a great deal.
its a lot of land but we want to keep certain areas.
good to do business.
please stay out of our sacred areas
Pakeha were willing to buy land from the Maori and bought a lot of it off the Ngai Tahu tribe who held rights over much of the South Island
we want our land back !
When Pakeha bought land Moari kept them out of certain places due to the sacredness of the area
I am here to raise the issues of the Ngai Tahu tribe and land
indeed we will look into that
Both crown and Maori thought they had made it clear which parts they would own and went separate ways
We have come to the agreement that the tribe has won the right of the inquiry and will be given compensation aswell as land.
Thank you we appreciate your time
some years after the deal was made, Moari had concerns about the agreements and and protested about the land. They were mad the land they wanted to keep was included in the purchase. protests and issues were raised over the next 150 years
The tribe went to the Waitangi tribual and asked for an Inquiry, it took a long time for them to make up thier mind and gather infomation
after much consideration, the claim was settled and the tribe was given $120 million for compensation and that land that was "purchased" of them
